I’m Marie Novicki and Solarbrations is my hobby business based in Sunnyvale, CA. This site is about me, my interests, and my business.
…as in, yarn. I learned to spin with a spindle at Stitches West 2007. Not long after, I bought a spinning wheel and taught myself how to use it. I love spinning – it is my go-to craft when I’m stressed.

In 2009, I taught myself to weave on a rigid heddle loom using books and YouTube videos. In 2016, I bought an 8-shaft Baby Wolf loom that I’m slowly learning how to use.

My first quilts were simple—a nap quilt for my daughter and small quilts for her dolls. I made my first pieced quilt in 1996 and loved it. I often make gift quilts for family and friends.

I learned to knit in 1968. I made one scarf and decided it was not for me. In 2001, a co-worker asked if I knew how to knit. After teaching her, I just kept knitting! I love knitting socks and shawls.

I was 7 when I learned how to embroider. That lead to crewel, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, and counted canvaswork. Cross stitch and counted canvas are my current favorites.

I learned to sew on a treadle sewing machine. I’ve sewn dolls and their outfits, clothes for me and my daughter, curtains, pillows, and many types of project bags.
